Challenge: High Contrast (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon PowerShot S1 IS
Location: Downtown Edmonton, Alberta
Date: Sep 4, 2005
Aperture: 3.2
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/8
Galleries: Urban, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Sep 4, 2005

Taken downtown Edmonton. This is actually the back of a big phone booth, I'm not sure if the wall was meant for what it's used for. The girl originally wasn't supposed to be there, but she walked by at the wrong time. I liked the motion blur because of the slower shutter speed so I used this photo.

Editing in PS:

Curves
Brightness/Contrast
Unsharp Mask
Very little use of the Burn tool around the black border to get rid of a few minor inconsistencies
Desaturate

Edit:
Thank you all commenters and voters, another mediocre finish but I got a few good comments and votes. For the commenter who said the black border looks wrong... that wasn't edited except for a few small dark grey spots removed. It was actually dark green but in B&W it turned out black.

Great shot man....should have done better in that challenge. Good thing about challenges is that a lower score doesn't mean its not a great photograph outside of the contest rules/theme. Well done!

contrast is great on this, and i love the motion blur, too... to me, this shot just says "active city with lots going on." i love it!

The contrast is incredible but, some of the whites are a little blown out. Not too harmful though. The motion is great and I hope you thanked her. It really adds some depth to what may have been just an ok shot. Composition is really good. It's nice she didn't wind up dead center. Creativity is A+ it seems like a well thought out shot and not just a last minute attempt at a submission. Nicely done.

Nice contrast areas, but the flash by her face is....odd and the some of the white areas are too white (hot) for me.

Good understanding of the theme and I am impressed by the amount of detail you managed to retain. Slightly spoilt by the blur at eye level

I like the anonymity of the motion blur on the person against the crispness of the background.
