Just the ends of a branch. One day; they will have little branches of their own running around.
Used USM for resizing (though the original was very grainy and tweaked brightness/contrast as it seemed a little muddy.

**Greetings from the Critique Club!**

The DOF for this photo is excellent. This really represents the challenge, and you did a good job.

A few things I would work with: The colors of the needles blend in too much with the background. The large cone seems to be slightly out of focus. A bump in contrast would be good, to really separate the foreground from the background.

In your description, you say that you used USM and resized. As I have learned, it is best to resize first and then sharpen, that way you have less artifacts in your completed photo. Also, you should do all editing first, and then resize, and sharpen (if necessary).

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to PM me. :)

This has good DOF. I think if the lighting were better, this would really have some impact. I like the comparison of the old and new, but it lacks emphasis as the lighting is maybe too low.

Sorry, these don't look young. Young branches are typically a brighter colour with a green core. They usually ahven't gone to seed either. I'm probably not qualified to say this, but I think a slightly tighter crop on the bottom and the left would make this picture more appealing. I did not remove points for the young branch title.

Not focused, which may be from camera shake considering the dark shot and a long exposure, maybe?

Are these really on the same tree?

Focus could be sharper, but all and all a good shot.
