CRITIQUE CLUB!
I think the color and lighting in this are just outstanding and you did a really great job with the flash -- the catchlight in her eyes really makes them pop.
Some suggestions for improvement might include:
- A contrasting color for the backdrop. Right now everything seems very reddish.
- A tighter crop on the woman's face. Although the composition of this is great and the background does help tell a story, traditionally, portraits are a much tighter crop. I think this might be the single biggest reason why this did not score higher. If you had not worried about including the entire heart, it might not have left so much space at the top and put the focus more on the model herself, which is where the focus is expected to be for a portrait. |

I'm not feelin' the background so much. It's a bit "urban" for such a cute girl considering her attire. |

although the light source is coming off from the right and slightly above the model's head, it still appears a bit flat. also a tighter cropped might have been better |

she doesn't really look like she's in love other than the background image. expression screams "i'm bored of this already". :( alot of potential, but need to keep the subject w/the mood you're trying to capture. |

Her face blends into the background. First I see the heart then her shirt, then I start looking for her face. In a portrait, I think the first thing I see should be the face. |

the background, although you are incorporating into the image, is still distracting somewhat. The lighting and models pose are the highlights of this image. |

Great shot! Her eyes really stand out! Nice. The pink background is a bit much but I love the heart there. |

One of the few portraits where the background really helps tell her story. Nice work. I think I might prefer it if she took up more of the frame though...She gets a little lost in the picture. |

I don't like the red and black with this background. She has beautiful blue eyes but my eyes are drawn to the background and the red shirt first. Lay a piece of paper over the right half and see what you think. A portrait should be just about the subject and the rest is just icing to complement, not detract. |

Technically good but seems too artificial to convey the title of the message |

Not a huge fan of the background, especially with the subject's red shirt, BUT the eyes overpower the background so you redeemed yourself. :) Great capture- best of luck with your score! |

The pinks in the portrait don't match and I am not saying that thye have to, but they are distracting to me . I wish you luck in the challenge. ~Roni |

I feel that she is way too small in the shot. I think a portrait should showcase the face. Hers is lovely, but I can't see any detail. The heart in the background I find distracting. The focus should only be on her. Her eyes are lovely, but I'd like to see them about 4 times closer. She's a lovely girl. |
