Thanks for all the comments, In hindsight I probably should have put this in portrait, but I'm very happy with 11th place. For everyone who wanted to know how this was done, I used my Sony DSC-S75 attached to a Scoptronix Maxview 40 eyepiece, attached to an Apex 90mm Mak spotting scope. I took about 12 photo, and this one was the sharpest. |

I love this shot, though It seems cliche for this magazine. Still, crystal clear and very engaging! 8 |

Pretty sharp moon shot! How much magnification did this take? I really like the dark side...works well for me. Not portrait - not a problem for me. 9 Rob the Swash |

Great Image. The only thing I might suggest is rotating this so that the cresent is more vertical than diagonal. Only because I think Im used to seeing it that way.... also might lend itself towards easier copy placement on the mag cover. Stunning detail in this shot though. Congrats. |

Fantastic detail. Perhaps a bit stark for a mag cover though. |

Pretty much your stereotypical mag cover for them ( I mean that in a good way). |

Nice, nice dramatic photograph. I like the way most of the photo is black, and yet there's this awareness of weight to the upper left corner, the awareness that the moon is there, just hidden. The detail on this, and the framing of it, are both excellent. |

Now.....THAT'S impressive!!! No fair, you must have used a telescope. - This has got to be in the top 3 at least. - 10 |

An excellent shot. Might need some head room so you can crop for the magazine cover. But I think it's magnifico. |

Wow, wow, wow, NICE moon photo.
What's more, the fact that it's that closeup seems to fit your intended magazine nicely; I'm not familiar with it but with a title like that it seems a good bet.
B&W is the right choice here, both because I've frequently seen B&W moons on the cover of magazines and because it makes it so much easier to place copy on the front.
My only potential complaint depends on the layout of the magazine; a closer crop or the use of full-bleed would obscure a section o fthe moon, which would suck. |
