I really like this picture. Great capture, great expression, but my only critique is it seems a bit stagnant. I'm not sure why, but I think it might be that it is so centered and symmetrical. Maybe having the slat a little bit more off center, or having your subject slightly off center would change that. I know composition is subjective, so this is only a suggestion and a humble opinion. |

Powerful image. II am particularly drawn to the culture and time this photo represents. It's one of my favorites. I love your use of sepia, and I love the expression on her face. Great job. My only suggestion would be to maybe not center her so straight-up-the-middle. Maybe have her off to one side -- adding the rule of thirds interest to your photo. But I really love it anyway! |

Perfect title for this simple but elegant portrait of a very impressive subject. The grain is discrete, and probably not even essential to the impact of the image (she'd look just as strong and dignified no matter what you did anyway). And the plain, centred composition is absolutely right for this lady; she's a person, not a model. 8 |

I would personally have cloned out the white stripe above her head going up the wall, it is distracting. But otherwise a nice portrait. |

Great Subject well shot. Maybe it would be more dramatic if you cropped her to one side rather than center? |

Outstanding shot. Great tones and the subtle grain enhances the textures. 10 |

There are a lot of stories in her eyes. I like the serious look on her face. Well done. 8. |

Nice picture. The amount of grain here is perfect. It conveys an "old picture" feel. Great subject |

Great subject, great tonality. Where is the grain? It's so mild I can't tell whether that is her natural skin texture or not. I'm giving it a 5, but know that I really like the pic. |

I like the square crop, but I'd make it tighter: closer to the shoulders and the top of her scarf. |

I love the portrait, but the BG is fighting for the foreground here and I wish there was more tonal range in the face |

...you know what...I love the fact that she is centered...it gives her this strength, as mention in your title...she is anchored and steadfast..excellent portrait. |

Great portrait. I don't even mind the dead center of the figure. Love the coloration too. |
