I'm risking total failure with this one.

post-challenge: yeah, that was pretty much total failure... but after a couple of days of voting, I realized it doesn't even meet the challenge all that well anyway. The background isn't white. I was really pleased to get the comments I did and felt validated in my choice to submit this one after reading that there actually were some people that liked it. I'm rather fond of it myself.
This was done with a strobe light at about 180 flashes/second, pointed at my hand holding an empty wine glass against white cardboard. as the camera exposed, I rotated my hand and the glass. The splashes of light at the top are the strobe's highlights on the rotating glass, and the dark cluster in the bottom left is centered around the axis of rotation of my hand.
In Photoshop, I played around with the curves a lot to isolate that dark area and bring out the cyan and pink halos, which were an accident that I liked. I did a bit of dodging in some places to emphasize form and a bit of burning to keep from losing too much of the lighter areas. Two passes of NeatImage and about three passes of USM at varying settings. Then I desaturated all but red, blue, and cyan channels with the Selective Color editor.
To me, the mood and feel of this image is quite similar to that in my Fantasy World entry. |

| I would love to know what this is a photo of.wine glass in the tub with clear curtain drawn? thats my guess. this photo hold a serious interest factor for me even tho nothing is in "focus". I think this deserves a 9...good luck ~~Cher~~ |
