this was a hard shoot. had to crawl under the leaf to capture the silhouette. I particularly like the details of the leaf. it's a variety of palm tree similar to coconut palm but about waist high only, with very thorny stems.

i used 2 flash units here. One built-in the camera (as a trigger), one on the other side of the leaf.

used levels and saturation. adjusted brightness and hue a bit.Crop for web.

I feel I'd really enjoy nature photography.

Returning for comments:
Fascinating composition with good use of transparency.

I really would have preferred a vertical composition with the frog facing upward

properly speaking, this is translucent, not transparent... love the texture in the palm frond, though

I rally like this type of photo. For me, I would have liked to have seen a stronger silhoutte of the frog. Not sure if that means a sronger light source or not.

The outline of the frog (toad?) is brilliantly realised and the positioning of it in amongst the radial lines is great. The only small gripe is the dark triangle to the left of the frog. Perhaps that could have been cloned out.

Wow, Love this picture. The color is excellent and the small lines in the leaves really add character and texture. Love the frog, great use of space.

Now that's a transparent shot! So...how many times did you have to bribe it...or is it even real? Hmmm...anyhow - cleverly done and well executed. Hope you get a ribbon! 10

I like palm frond shadow pics, but you need a really sharp shadow to make it a top notch picture. Also what's the triangle bit? That's unfortunate.

interesting choice of subject, and i like the yellow green. not sure i'd view this as transparent, though.

more translucent - than transparent.
nice image though - good luck
