this is just weird. the lighting on the skin is really flat. the lighting on the cutting utensil is pretty good, though. 5. |

I initially like this shot a lot. The edge of the blade is well defined and interesting. I'm not sure what it's cutting. It looks like skin, but it has weird lumps and wrinkles, so I'm just slightly unclear as to what is going on. |

great sharpness and detail in the dark areas. I am familiar with this, being an ER RN. Nice shot 8 |

Well, hardly a 'light' shot. I feel like I should comment more on the subject than on the techniques of the photo. Cutting is a serious thing. Strikes me that subject must feel desperate for relief. I am concerned, |

An apt choice for a low-key picture. However, the composition doesn't work for me here, and I'm not sure where your focus was. I had to hunt around for the scars, to me they're not immediately obvious. The scissors look very blunt... maybe something sharper would have added an extra 'edginess' to this picture, and also added to it's shock value. In all, a great idea, could be better excecuted. 6
ps, I hope the cutter is okay! |

Very dark, in several ways. I have to be honest, however, that the subject matter repels me viciously, which is why I am inclined to vote low. Sorry. (2) |

I pushed the arrow key as much as possible on this one, I wanted to delay commenting on it, because it's a hard photo to deal with. Questions run through my mind... is this a cry for help? a cry for pity? or a bold statement against the norm? what is the artist trying to achieve here? Is this the artist doing the cutting of their own body? is it a friend (doubtful but could be) why does one cut themselves... I'm sure you've had a lot of people voting on this challenge totally skip by this photo, they give it their rating and continue on without blinking their eyes... I can't do that... I kept coming back to this photo, knowing I wanted to say something, but not knowing what to say. I guess I still don't know what to say... this is one of the most thought provoking photos I've come across at DPC, and as a piece of art that is quite an achievement. I guess you realize the horificness of this, as you have put it in a somewhat onimous, dark challenge. I only hope that in time, the person in the photo, or you, will come to realize that life is not all that bad that you need to make yourself hurt. I do not like the subject of this photo, I do not think it is a tremendously done well crafted photo. I do think that it made me think and in that regard I have no choice but to give it a 10. If you need to talk at any time, feel free to contact me. |
