there is a similar shot in this challenge of a feather which i left some comments on. basically, i think that you've chosen a subject that is very tonally flat, and it's not allowing any contrast to come into the image. it's not showing us any light, which is the essence of photography. 3. |

The directional light adds depth to the texture, which is good! You've also found some interesting pattern variations to show us. |

I can barely make out a few pixels that are a TINY bit lighter than the black. Basically this is just a black box, as I see it. Not much impact visually for me! |

I am gonna have to say that this is a touch on the dark side...and yes my monitor is calibrated once a month. I can make out the texture alright, but it all comes across almost to blah. 4 |

The lighting is very flat perhaps if it had been lit at an angle the texture would have stood out more or increased the pictures contrast? |
