I caught the idea from a photography book, but I haven't got the lights for doing the same way, so I changed my mind and shot this one. The profile is of my patient and beautiful wife.
I think is one of my best photos. Hope voters think the same...
The post processing is just crop and contrast.

Thanks a lot to everyone, especially to the commenters. Is my first photograph with so many comments and they are really good for learning and doing things better.
For the comments I have realized that the glass with red wine wasn't understood. I tried to make it more clear, but my lightning was very poor.
Thanks to all the voters also (including the ones without camera who gave a 4.667, because they prevent us of thinking that you are a good photographer).
And of course many thanks to wrobel for my first shot being someone's favorite.

I like this - just an outline, well controlled.

Enjoy. Looks inviting. Nice uplight effect and there is more than a profile.

Lightin on face is superb. Some may find the rectangle distracting due to the lack of sharp crisp straight lines. Personally I think this should score high

Very nice, unusual lighting.

Is it a bottle of red wine? (my screen is very dark and I cant change it) Nice shot, very emotive and impactful. Reason I asked if it was a bottle of wine, it kinda depicts someone who is drinking his tyroubles away/ alcoholic etc. Very strong. If this isnt the case, please disregard!

Love it. Not quite a silhouette, since there's discernable detail, but yet enough in the shadow to leave a lot to the imagination. If it was an advanced editing challenge, I would edit out the one line above the neck (you maybe would've, too). Great work!

I love the profile. Would be a 10 if I could tell what the object is on the right.

I love the lighted outline of the face! I'm not sure what that is the person is looking at but this is a very appealing photo. Good job.

what is that in the photo with the portrait??? You should have eliminated that...

grea shot, just enough light to see everything you need to see. which keeps it mysterious!

I'm jealous because what you've achieved is what I was trying to achieve in a comp in another forum. I used reflected light (bounced off a wall) to get a shillouette of face and glass. My only criticism would be that the glass is held at an angle that grates on the senses (if that makes any sense to you). Less fluid (I used a half full wine glass) in the glass and held at about 45o would have looked better.

cheers
wrobel.

I had to look at this twice for several minutes each to figure out that it was a glass of something (beer? wine?). I like the silhouette/backlighting, but feel this image would be stronger if it included more midtones so every element was more easily identifiable. Overall, it's a decent shot. Good luck in the challenge!

Nice sharpness. More light would help, on silhouette, through wine, etc., maybe just more exposure.

Good shot. The light exposure on the edges really works for this shot.
