This picture was somewhat of a challenge...at first. It was a very bright sunset and there was quite a bit of "sea mist"...making it a little hasy. At first, I thought, "Oh, I'll just burn the darker areas to make it more dramatic." But then I realized that it was basic editing! So I played around with the Curves tool until I created an effect that was similar to burning. The super bright sun and unevenly colored dark spots of sand allowed for a smooth "burn-like" gradient from the edges to the main subjects. After that, I adjusted the levels, hue/saturation (red), added a slight 15% gaussian blur, adjusted the horizon, cropped, added a border, popped it into NeatImage to get rid of some of the noise, and there you have it :-) I have no idea how this will do. I can see some people liking it and some people being totally indifferent (this is a tough group to please).

Very worthy of a ribbon. A family silhoutte against the setting sun. Kudos for bringing in this exhilirating capture. Congratulations on your RED.

love the golden soft colour tones. The sun seems to be drawing the three figures into the horizon. Triffic shot and vote it a 9

Wow! can hardly ask for a better setting. Makes me want to move back to California. Though judging from the long and progressive shore this is probably not the Pacific? (9)

Nice idea, and pretty good execution. Silhouette looses some sharpness due to flare(?), and shadows with heads would be better. But I really like the captured position of the Three.

Absolutely stunning picture! This should be on a card or poster somewhere. Very nicely done and very touching. Not sure how the voters are scoring for the "Odd" category (as in number of weirdness), but this is definitely in my top 10.
