We were qualifying for shotgun proficiency during nighttime firearms training at the law enforcement academy I am attending. I\'m the only person that has a digital camera, therefore am the historian for our class. I was shooting photos of each student as they fired their last shot and got very lucky on this one to catch the muzzle flash. I did not use a sound trigger or other means to catch the perfect timing other anticipation and luck.

This was my 2nd photo ever submitted to a challenge. Thanks for all the great comments and help I have received.

that must've been really hard to capture, it'd be a really great shot if it was cleaned up a bit. very cool.

I don't know....from a photographic viewpoint it looks like you captured this just at the perfect moment with the flare and smoke of the gun blast. Even with the title, this really doesn't suggest 'too early' for me. It's an interesting capture but ultimately I'm not really engaged in the composition or subject matter. I'm bothered by the way his legs are cropped just below the knees. It creates an unbalanced feel.

Ah... Here a percussion photograph but which attracts me by no means, however I am follower of the weapons. There would have been various ways of presenting this image

I love the way that looks ( the explosion) but im finding all the grain in the dark colors very distracting. Next time maybe crop in closer on just the gun or have aditional lighting. Good idea just needs a little adjustment

Feels like a snap - very harshe shadows.
Good timing though

I'd say you've actually captured the photo exactly right, this isn't too early, its perfect timing.
