Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Too Late (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-10D
Lens: Sigma 18-125mm f/3.5-5.6 DC for Canon
Location: Charles River, Boston, MA
Date: Dec 4, 2005
Aperture: 4
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/60
Galleries: Landscape, Water
Date Uploaded: Dec 4, 2005

Standing on the Watertown side of the Charles River, facing Boston, on one of the outcrops from the boardwalk. Used the camera's built-in flash to capture the falling snow. The vignetting was quite strong in the raw version (taken at 18mm). When fiddling with the Photoshop Raw Converter lens settings to remove it, I discovered that that it actually helps the image, brings a "snow-globe" look to it.

I like the snowflakes in the pictures, but the large ones are a little distracting.

You discovered that flash and snow don't mix unless you want this effect. Consider cropping to reduce the significant vignetting visible with this lens at this aperture.

Nice photo, but without the title, I'd never guess that this image had anything to do with the concept of "too late"

This needs to be in Stock.....especially this time of year. GREAT shot. You can sell this easily.

I love that you were able to actually capture the snow's movement. I love the gray/blue tones of the water and sky. I might crop out that slight bit to the left of the "island" so that it doesn't seem quite so centered. Otherwise - great work 8

Great shot! Like the muted colors overall; the stop action on the snow. Nice composition on the wide angle. The vignetting even helps.

The only down side is that I have to stretch a bit on the theme but that's probably just me. I want the photo to tell me the story rather than have to look at the title.
