This knife scabbard was made and beaded by my father, George Knowlden (Two Hawk.) The knife is a replica Hudson Bay knife. I created a mirror "box" out of mirror tiles. The knife and scabbard are hung by fishing line with the tip in the junction of the three mirrors. It was nearly impossible to photograph without including myself in the shot, but I used a narrow depth of field to blur myself out. The round shape in the lower left hand corner is my head.

I don't know if the voters will be liberal enough to figure the knife and scabbard fit under the knife category. I'll just have to see.

Post processing included, Levels, Brightness/Contrast, Hue/Sat, Cropped and rotated to straighten, Backround selected and brightness reduced, Some mirror lines cloned out, USM, Selective blurring and sharpening, Gradiant mask applied in left corner, Sized, canvas increased and saved for web.

"I don't know if the voters will be liberal enough to figure the knife and scabbard fit under the knife category. I'll just have to see. "

I guess we saw. I have to admit I gave this a 5. Why? Perhaps it was that the scabbard was more prominent than the knife, but I am usually fairly liberal with my DNMC deductions. There's a chance the pretty colors were denied a bit of "wow" as you used a similar pattern of colors so recently in triptych. (I thought of that shot immediately when I voted on this one. Looks like I was on to something as you did them both.)

Visually, I think the blurred foreground knife is a bit of a drawback. Not only does it command a fair sized portion of the frame, it is not colorful like the others. Of course it would be impossible to do the shot without, but it might be a "doomed concept" in this regard.

I'm not so sure about the background, the light area in bottom left corner is a bit distracting.

great composition and a great photo but the knife is hidden in it pouch, a little to much for the challenge
