Very neat idea - I like how rich and cool that blue color is. |

I live on the James in Buchanan and this is a spot on shot of how the landscape feels in winter at about 5:30 in the morning. Greeley and I were fortunate enough to see a red tail hawk riding the thermals at dawn on a day just like this. Jimmy, I don't know about your contest rules but you captured the spirit of this place we call home PERFECTLY. Gerge Washington saw the same view when he surveyed Natural Bridge. Thomas Jefferson described it in his journal, and Lewis and Clark loved the topography so well one of them married a local girl on their way back! My Great Great.... grandparents may not have had a digital camera when they left Ireland, but they would recognize what you did in this picture in their hearts! LOL MMM |

This is a beautiful shot! The colors in the reflection are incredible and the contrast between that and the far shore is exquisite! The 'divining rod' is excellent as well being the only true color tree. Very well done in my opinion. Shows a lot of creativity and thought. The composition is well done - ratio of subject to overall scene. Placement of the subject bothered me at first, but when you take in the whole shot and pair it with it's reflection, the impact is much stronger. Should have done much better, again my opinion. Well done! |

Wow. I didn't score this too well in the challenge, however it seems to be a better photo concept outside the challenge for me, and I really like it. Great editing. |

Maybe I'm not the best to comment on this because a) I like your work and b) I generally like selective desat more than many others on this site. That being said...
1) I'm sure there were a few DNMC. Hopefully not many, but I bet there were some which likely dragged you down a bit.
2) I think what makes the picture suffer, and I just learned this myself on a current challenge, is that leafless trees make for a chaotic pattern which isn't always visually pleasing. We quickly lose which branch goes with what and then it looks like an oversharpened bundle of lines. It isn't too terrible here because you managed to pull your subject out with the desat, but it probably doesn't help.
3) Something just seems a bit off on having both the log and the lake in color. They compete now as the subject and we lose the focus of the picture. Maybe that's all just "fancy talk", but there might be some truth there. |

FYI: I started to title it "Divining Fork" but thought that there was enough fork implied in the shot for most viewers - perhaps I was wrong based on the comments! LOL Oh well... Thanks for the Comments & the Favorites! |

I'm finding it hard to see a knife, fork or a spoon. But the photo is nice. |

interesting take on the challenge, should be interesting to see where this winds up. you have the eye, equipment, and skill to do whatever you want--i guess you enjoy trying to get dpc to get out of the box ;-) |

7 - Very nice, good desaturation, nice colorings. Criticism; perhaps (depending on the true color) more of a vivid green as is the blue and perhaps a slightly different crop, especially on the right to try to eliminate that 'bank'/edge, may have also made this better in my opinion. |

I think the selective desat. on this just takes away, the blue of the water is very pretty but seems almost distracting to me . Also I'm not sure but it looks like you missed a few spots in the desat. all in all good try and good luck in this challenge. |
