Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: 4:00-5:00 a.m. (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Nikon D70s
Lens: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED
Location: Louisville, KY
Date: Dec 9, 2005
Aperture: f/4.5
ISO: 200?
Shutter: 1/13
Galleries: Portraiture, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Dec 9, 2005

Some curves, saturation, channel mixer and cropped.

I like this photo and have high hopes for it. I had two others from this series that I liked as well (and would have made a nice triptych) but I thought this best exemplified the early morning feeling while looking technically the best.

Not sure why this one placed where it did - I voted it as the best in the challenge. I has an excellent 'oh, Jeez, why am I up at 4AM?!?' feel to it, is pretty funny, works well in black & white, and has good lighting. I thought it was a great response to a difficult challenge!

Hmm, I've heard of drinking orange juice out of the carton, first time I've seen coffee drunk out of the pot.
Good One.

Haha, why not a whole pot while you were at it :) Still not completely selling me this shot, I think it needs another backround, I personally would have voted higher if there was an out of focus kitchen behind him rather than an blank wall but other than that, a very "believable early morning shot".

Nice idea, not sure about his placement in the frame. I think if his eyes obeyed rule of thirds this could have been more effective. Shame his torso is overexposed. Background is too bright, it takes attention away from the subject.

I think it would have spilled on his chest as he actually began to drink from the pot. This is a clever picture with a top notch background. 9

good composition.... creativity is there the overall picture is gray... i need to see the true blacks and white.... he look like he was just posing to take the picture.. he needs to put just a little more expression as how He would really get up early in the morning to go to work....
Good Job....

Never seen anyone drink coffee from the pot before.... lol Well shot, a tad overexposed in spots, but I think that adds to the feeling. 8

I think a little darkness could really add to this picture; furthermore, it would help it work with the theme of this challenge.

"sex sells"

the man's naked torso detracts from the focus of the photograph, the coffee pot.
plus, it's not light out at 4 or 5 AM, and that lighting suggests light coming through a window. also, the isolated subject thing isn't a good thing, it makes it look unnatural and commercial, and this shot would be a lot better in the context of a kitchen or something.

I try to imagine this picture with black background, could be better. Anyway it's a good shot.

Good humour that most of us can probably relate to. Good lighting and tones and great title. Well done.

Well composed photo and humurous as well. I wonder if a darker background would of made a greater impact considering 4-5 a.m. time. Very nice!

Love the composition and the set up. Wish it weren't so washed out, more contrast would help.
