In response to your request, I am suposed to give this photo an in depth critique, however, due to the lack of photographer's comments and photo information, all I can offer in the way of a critique is my own personal opinions on this image, without knowing what your intent for the image was.
So here goes.
I think it fits the challenge, but there doesn't seem to be a real point to why you chose to use the DOF. Usually, you use shallow DOF to draw attention to a part of the photo that is interesting, or the main subject. Neither of which apply here. There is a small spot in the center of the handle of the fork that is in focus. To me, this isn't the most interesting part of the photo. And moving right along to interest, this photo is lacking in that department as well. It's a fork sitting on blue glass? The background is blurred, but I still find it a distractino as it contains a strong brightly colored horizontal line, which, by the way, is angled. The subject is lacking interest to hold me to the photo.
I wish there had been more focus in the areas that were suposed to be in focus. The entire shot seems soft to me, and this could just be a result of the texture making it seem oof, but there is just no detail to focus on.
The lighting seems also to be a bit bland. I would ask myself what I was trying to do with this pic. What is it that I was trying to portray, and what are people going to look at and say 'wow'.
