Taken at an Airshow in Rhode Island. I love jets and this guy was moving. This was my first time trying to photograph high speed jets. I did get lucky and get some excellent shots though. I used my 10D with 70-200 2.8L IS handheld.

Excellent shot, Diversq! Did you use any attachments/lenses at that shutter speed and aperture? I don't see a lot of glare there.

Superb.... I was an Air Force photographer for 22 1/2 years.... This is really a very dynamic photograph. Contrast lines around the gray aircraft set it off from the gray background... subtle canopy color and afterburner lite are so nice. Way to Go!! I'm impressed.

I love this shot! It looks like you're in another F-16 in formation with it. I am new to digital photog and will keep this as a favorite.

It was funny really because a young girl behind me commented to her father and I overheard her say, Dad is that camera a digital camera like ours (he had a small point and shoot digital) and he said back to her, no honey, that camera probably costs more then our car.

I turned at that point and smiled at him. Then showed his family this shot and they were impressed. His son then said he wanted a camera like that and asked if his dad would get him one. He replied, its either that or college. Everyone laughed and we went back to watching the show.

LOL...Great story!
Great picture too. You did good, congrats!

Wow -- I was being a smartass because I was SURE that you had posted this over at PhotoSIG! Check out this link and see what I mean...

//www.photosig.com/go/photos/view?id=957385

I was sure that you had simply cropped this version a little differently, and cleaned it up a bit!

In any case, congratulations on an awesome image -- I love it! I was very bummed that the airshow here in Pittsburgh was called off this year. They decided to nix it back in March as the war was looming over us, and they didn't know whether they could get the aircraft here.

Talk about psyched!. Thanks for the great comments. This is tightly cropped and processed with neat image. Alan you were correct on the location, where you there? However it was shot with my 10D so I got ya there. I never posted this shot anywhere else so would be surprised if you saw this exact image anywhere else. I will post my original later so you can see how it was cropped and done for the final. Thanks again for the great comments. Ya baby!

Great subject. Too bad about the sky color and the plane color being almost identical. More contrast would've been better, but still a good subject.

Excellent!

Judging from my extensive knowledge of aircraft, I would have to say that this is a flight of the Viper East Demonstration Team F-16. And, given the obvious condensation trails pouring off the foreplanes and wingtips, I'd say that this would be consistent with the conditions at the Rhode Island ANG Airshow, Quonset Point. Also, given that I'm the owner of a D100 myself, I can judge by the subtle nuances of the shot that this photo was also taken with a D100. Plus I saw the shot with all the details over on PhotoSIG. :)

I love the smoke and the red in the afterburner hoodingle (pardon the technical names). This is just shy of a 10 in my book. Just a teeny tiny bit more contrast and/or sharpness to bring the jet out a hair more against the sky would be the difference. Awesome job. - 9

Yeah baby what a great shot!! I've tried shots of fighters and they are very hard to capture, like you did here. Great job! The sky color really fits well with the steal tone of the plane also. 8
