Well, what can I say? I have NO willing models...atleast that are human (the hospital really frowns on barrowing babies for photo shoots), not that Smoky was very cooperative. My card space was almost out, and my battery was dying so I only got 4 shots. Oh well. I though the idea was cute...and nothing else worked out. wah

*Greetings from the Critique Club*

Hello Anna! What a great little photo this is. There is not too much in this photo that is unpleasant to me. My only gripe would be a little more light on the left hand side of the cat. I understand though looking at this how it was taken and if you had of tried to put something there to reflect it back the cat probably would of jumped up and moved (well that's what my cat would of done anyway). The use of the natural lighting is wonderful and your DOF sits really nicely from front to back.

The tones in this picture are really good. I'm not sure if you did it PP or it was done in camera but there is some contrasting detail in the cats fur that really works well.

It would of been nice to have the background laid out slightly more even. The big fold down the right hand side of it is a bit distracting. Once again I don't know of the situation, but if the cat was already lying there and wasn't very cooperative it would always be tricky to straighten it up without him moving.

I guess the last thing I should mention is the crop. Obviously I don't like the blown out edge on the top right of the photo. Would it have worked better with a square crop to remove that element? In my opinion I might of gone this way.

Overall, this is a really sweet photo and considering your cat wasn't cooperating and you felt rushed because of dying batteries you ended up with a nice photo. Well done!

That is funny! Very nice picture. The B/W is a very nice touch. Good work and good luck.

That is too sweet. Now how did you get that cat to lay there and not roll over and play with that egg?

Really sweet, even if it's a tiny bit contrived. The cat looks super serious about her role as a hen :-) I love the lighting, but find the gray blanket a little distracting on the fold and the right corner. She is a very beautiful cat and you've done a wonderful job with the color processing in this.

Okay - weird.
I shot one of my cats huddled over a clutch of duck eggs "cleaning" them for this challenge - but decided not to enter it. Mine was even sitting on the same kind of blanket as yours! I'm going o have to upload it now so you don't think i am crazy.

I prefer yours. I couldnt get mine to sit still long enough to get the detail in her black fur right. Too funny we had the same idea.

I laughed at this one. Nice conversion to B&W. I would have cropped the upper right corner out.

Composition is ok. The subject matter could have been better. The image quality is ok. Has potential of being really creative. - 5

She doesnt seem very happy about the egg - wonderful black and white - wonderful focus -if I crop the right with my hand, her eyes stand out even more - perhaps the white tufft of belly fur is distracting as is the edge of the blanket in the upper right,

This is a gorgeous pet portrait! I love the concept too. I knew a cat that did that kind of adoption once.

That is the world's most patient cat. I guess this works for me in a very sillly way. What makes it work is the evident quality of the photograph.

haha really funny, not the best background, too much unnecessary texture on the background

I love this except for the blanket. It kind of ruins the wonderful clarity and lighting. I'd like a solid black background. Great cat. Clever idea.
