Shot on the south fork of the American River, the reason the rocks look weird, is that they are. Pink Sierra Granite looks almost orange and every shot you take looks both oversharpened (lots of little inclusions of flecks of mica and feldspar) and slightly blurry (the non quartzite rock is soft and in a tumbler almost gets the vague translucence of marble) . It is funny how we find analogues in nature, sort of like that feeling of your cell phone buzzing in your pocket, when you realize that your phone is in a different pocket; Has my body always done that twitchy buzzing thing?

I'm not sure what it is, but the coloring of the rocks looks...odd to me. I like the concept, but I think technically it could use some sharper focus and less color, at least to my untrained eyes.

My favorite photo in the challenge,
I really enjoy the quick sharp angles and cold colors of the ice in contrast to the warm colors of the stones with there time worn rounded shapes. To me a beautiful study of contrasts. The only reason I didn't rate it higher is because I find myself wishing there was just a little more light playing among the prizms and stones. Good job.

great shot...only could have been a bit sharper, maybe it's the resolution on the computer, but a bit more sharpness would reall make this a winner 8

something about that middle rock seems off to me, almost like it's too sharp or not focused or something.
