My partner (Kari1) took me out because she wanted to shoot Burst of Colour. She had a mall playground in mind but when we got there, everything was faded and the colours dull.

Walking back to the car I saw a rack of sarongs outside a shop, the colours were amazing. On their own they were not enough as the challenge is for the colours to *offset* the subject, not *be* the subject.

It was holidays and the mall was filled with children and parents. I saw this delightful 2yr old who I came to know was Nelesoni and his 5yr old brother Isaiah. I asked their mum if I could photograph them and I quite rightly had to explain all about DPC and the challenges.

I talked to the boys about playing peek-a-boo in the clothes and just as I was setting up, Isaiah burst through and I reflex-shot this image.

I took many more of this delightful family, particularly one of the two boys looking at each other. But it was this one, the first almost candid one that had the spontaneity and life that is so pleasing to the eye. Don't you just love the food dribbled down his top - such a typically boy thing.

Even if this is canned in the voting, I regard it as one of my best photos ever. Thanks DPC for making me do this and thanks Kari for not begrudging me the shot when you took me out to do yours.

Hey Brett, I didn’t realize this was yours. I see you pegged out the apertrue to shorten your shutter as much as possible. Only other option was to bump your ISO up. I love your description of getting this image. No matter what you did with the rest of the images... you couldn’t have chosen a better expression. I think this should have placed higher. Keep up the good work.

Wonderful colors. A fun and energetic expression. There is a slight motion blur (obviously)... I'll come back and check on your shutter speed when the challenge is over. I like the way the folds of cloth guide your eye back to the boy... nice compositon.

Great candid. I love the feel and emotive quality of this shot. The color saturation is also excellent. IMHO the focus seems a tad off. Mostly evident in the face and areas of the background material. Looks like the lighting conditions were quite bright. Perhaps you could have gotten away with shutter speeds a few stops higher to improve focus? Just my opinion, nice shot nonetheless.... 7

The colored background is so busy that, to my eye, the little boy really doesn't stand out.
