a marble on a wooden pizza oven board sunlit from the setting sun outside the window.

looking closely at the marble will reveal an sunset behind a maple tree. the sun sits at the horizon. five minutes later it was gone.

shot in RAW with the intention of cooling down the color temp severely.

in RSP i adjusted color temp to 2000 - aiming to bring back the orange later with a selective color adjustment layer.

minor other adjustments in RAW conversion save as TIFF.

opened in PS6 created a selective color adjustment layer, and tweaked the orange tone back to how it looked earlier. sharpened full size file - canvas size for border - resize - sharpened again - save as for web.

I gave this photo a 6. I think it has great colors and nice composition. At a 5.4, there's less to comment on compared to many on this thread. Possible problems include the rim of light around the "bottom" (top) of the ball. I'm not sure what you could do other than clone it out, but it catches the eye too much.

In the end, the photo may just be too abstract for DPC. Rotating 180 degrees, while nice for the sunset, throws people off a bit and maybe makes them concentrate more on that aspect than on the picture itself.

It would be interesting to see a square crop. While we are trained to not like them, sometimes they work. I'd have to see it though. Just an idea.

Challenge
- Relevant to the Challenge? Yes
- Is subject unique (vs. unoriginal or rehashed)? Yes

Compostion
- Good or Bad? How can it be fixed? It's very pleasing to the eye.
- Good use of Depth of Field? Yes
- Good focus? Yes

Lighting
- Good use of light? Yes
- Good use of shadows? Yes

Aesthetics/Artistic Appeal:
- Colors and Contrast. Very vibrant colors
- Sharpness. The edge of the mrble has a very clean sharp edge to it. While the reflection and the board have a softness to them.
- What is my reaction or feelings? Jesus. For the life of my I can't remember voting this one. I have no idea why I only gave it a 6, but I should have given it a 8. There was a LOT of heavy competition in that challenge though.

I like this photo a lot, but I think it's more about colour than just shape.
