i really like the DOF and how simple but attractive the photo is. i voted you a 7 in the challenge, because the main imporvement I thought could of helped was the shadows, an otherwise awesome photo though. |

I like this shot. The red makes a very good contrast with the rest of the photo.I like the DOF but I think you should've tried another angle for the lighting. |

I gave you a 7.
Nice use of multiple techiques. Shallow DoF, Rule of thirds and Selective Desat. On the downside there was no WOW factor which prevented me from giving a higher vote.
Hope this helps some,
bazz. |

Gr8 idea - I would've given you more than what you got (7 or 8). I love it. Very imaginative idea. Where do you people get these ideas from? |

Hi from the Critique Club:
First impression: Visually arresting, with a good point of impact(NPI).
Composition: Good job with your camera angle and shot setup. The shadows cast by your lighting set up add to the shot. DOF works great along with your color choice to make this a good picture. ONe commentator mentioned the slight differences in pin alignment. Valid point.
Lighting: It works well here, my only suggestion would have been just a touch more lightness to upper left corner, still maintaining the difference between right and left sides but giving a lighter overall effect.
Challenge: A good take on the challenge and executed well. 2 down and many more to come, Keep shooting and I'm sure we'll be seeing more of these scores(and better) in the future.
P.M. me if any questions.

Although this image is rather static, the color certainly does make it's presence known. Excellent use of DoF, color and lighting. There appear to be compression / sharpening artifacts on the nearer pins that I find a little distracting. Because the composition is so minimal it is apparent that the pins are not exactly aligned (the 7th pin from the back is particularly distracting). |

Love this shot. It has a very contemporary/artistic quality to it. The DOF and shadows from your lighting setup also add dimension and interest to the shot. Nice subtle answer to this challenge.... 8 |

Let's see, it has position (thirds), height (ever so slightly), focus...and it's red! What more could we do to call attention to that particular pin? |

isn't that interesting that you shot something that is singled out? Can I borrow this idea for this week's challenge?
Love the lighting, the white pinheads seem a tad over exposed, could be my monitor - great creative though, love the simplicity |
