Date Uploaded: Jan 8, 2006

While visiting the Gettysburg National Monument last August we witnessed this most exhilarating sunset. During its 14 minute display we took many shots, with this one being destined for this challenge. The exposure of the sky was IMO nearly perfect but I had to select the foreground and lighten is to bring out more of the detail. I purposely left it a smidgen dark in an effort not to make it look fake. It was taken with a Sigma 17-35mm at 17mm on a Gitzo Studex tripod.
Please enjoy

This is a great shot- but on my screen the black is only at about 80% - -the shame is that your monitor is probably different and it looks 100%. this is a phenomena everywhere that kills me because I have 3 monitors between work and home and even when using just one I sometimes get different results when saving for web. ... anyway .. back to your photo: I would also have rotated to make the horizon straight. It's a valient effort and there is somethign stirring about it that is really grabbing me. 8

You over-saturated the colors. The darks are purple. Be carefull with saturation.

The sky looks like it is on fire, and this has been so well taken.....

Nice colour in the sky, looks a little soft, maybe tilted but it could just be the hill playing tricks.

I love the sky - and the old canon, just would prefer the horizon being level.

The sky is cool, but the cannon is lost in the treeline. Maybe getting closer and lower to get a silhouette might have been better?

It looks like you've pushed the sky just a little bit much in the saturation, and you've lost quite a bit of detail in the foreground.

great sky. just wondering if you could have gone lower done to have more of the canon in silhouette against the sky. it seems a bit lost in front of the dark background. 5

Its a nice sky, but the ground lacks contrast and seems flat. The blacks arent actually black, but a grey purple? If you see them as black I think you need to try recalibrating your monitor, or use the eyedropper tool in editing to find out what colours they really are.

Robert E. Lee will never surrender!

Beautiful image. I love the way the sky is reflecting off of the canon. Its a "reflection" on the past.

oooh! Nice! Brilliant colours!

This is an impressive picture, but the horizon needs to be rotated CW a bit.
