this is very much inspired by Telehubbie's "Photosynthesis."

- this is the first time I've done a green duotone. Don't see them much. Maybe that's because nobody likes them. Hmm.

- once again, I think I've made too dark an image for the DPC crowd. I keep doing this.

- the detail retention in the veins is not nearly as good as I'd like. this image is at 65% JPEG compression.

- I'm not sure about this, but I might have been better off keeping the color. the main reason I didn't was because I wanted to distance myself from Telehubbie's image as much as possible while keeping the same subject matter. The problem with this is that the removal of (natural) color makes for an image much more about form than light.

-hmmmmm.

-- post-challenge:

This image had just the problem I was afraid it would: it's not clear that it's backlit. Well, it was; it was pressed up against a window with the sun directly behind. Thinking about it now, I might have better conveyed backlighting by including a corner with a bright edge, though that would have changed this image completely.

holy sh...
this image has derserved a much higher place.
the problem was, that it was not obvious enough (also for me) that it was backlit for most people.
though a really impressive image.
keep up your great work

I've always like pictures of leaves, because they display a graceful pattern which is impossible to replicate by my hands. That being said, I'm trying to determine how this is showing it being backlit.

(Of course in Judging the picture I can't see your comments on how this was done, or anything else about you for impartiality on the judging.)

Since you submitted the leaf, I can only assume that it was lit from behind and we're looking through the leaf. This being said, it's amazing. Would you mind telling us how you achieved this effect and what type plant if comes from? Thanks.

Beautiful. Great details, my only critique is that the backlighting is not obvious.

one of my favs until now
the pattern of the leave and the veins are great
the unsymmetrical position adds interest
my only question is:did you really backlit the leave?

I'm assuming that the lighter areas come from a light behind the leaf. It's not totally clear that is the case but I'm going to assume it is. Therefore I find this on topic and can rate on the merit of the photo which is very high. The composition is good. The color is good. The element of design is great. I really like this.

this doesn't look backlit to me, but I'm going to take your word for it - I'm loving the texture - this is cool work.

Great detail. Not sure where the backlighting is coming into play here, but I like the shot regardless
