Greetings from the Critique Club

Well, here you are with your first Challenge under your belt. Congratulations for getting your feet wet, both figuratively, and from your image, in reality as well.

While I like your image quite a lot, it could have used a little mor real estate in front of the puddle to give even more of an indication of the hurdle to be overcome by the vehicle trying to traverse it.

It looks as if it was a foggy day and you still captured some good value changes. More would have helped. If you can, you might try bracketing your shots to see if another close setting could bring out more of the colors. (I had to look really hard in my instruction book to find out how to do that)

Image too small: If you have Photoshop CS or CS2 (I don't know about Elements) you can Save to Web. This is the easiest way to get to 640 pixels on the longest side. (I save these truncated images in a separate file) If you have any questions on this, PM me and I'll see if I can help.

So, I wish you good luck in your future Challenges. The hard one is over. I'll look forward to seeing more of your work.

Alice

I'm sure you've already gotten a lot of comments on how small this is. Great scenery though. 4.

Flat light has tricked the camera into over exposing this. You could have had deep rich greens and browns instead itsd washed out all the colour.
If you haven't already done so go and buy a hand held light meter to double check what the camera has decided is the 'best exposure'. Use it to work out what the actual exposure should be based on the thing (mud in this case) which is the main subject and not on the overall ambient light.

Too bad that this good shot looks oversharpened.

It's hard to understand that this is a road from your shot. I think that you should have included more of the road in the bottom of the frame, so that the viewer could understand that it was interrupted by this puddle. Also, try not to compose so dead-on.
