"Sally Mann captures the true essence of childhood in her photographs of her children. The mischievous and sly gazes suggest a sense of seductiveness as well as a portrayal of innocence. Her black and white prints have been known to be controversial to some and to others her work is praised throughout the art community and in the general public. Her images are haunting, intimate, and disturbing but at the same time leave the viewer with a sense of comfort." (refer to URL below for more info on Sally) Sally Mann was TIME's Photographer of the Year in 2001.

this looks like a detail of a Sally Mann photograph, and the child doesn't look adult enough. But still, very expressive and a striking photo on its own merits. Enjoyed.

Nice clean image. Smooth darkening around the face. Great B&W with lots of contrast.

The eyes are amazing! However, there is an object in teh foreground that impedes my view of this young boy. I am not certain what it is though at this point and I am sure you will let us know what it is. I think without it, this would have scored a bit higher for most. 6

You've captured the expression and softness well here.

Nice portrait. I find two things disturbing: something with the right corner of the mouth of the kid, and the OOF something in the bottom middle of the frame. Love th eyes and perspective, which fit the title well.

Sally's photos have much more of a gutsy sense to them in my opnion. The eyes are good, but it seems too blurred and soft to really look like one of hers.

My brief inquiry into the work of Sally Mann was rewarding; you picked an excellent photographer (in my estimation) to emulate. However, this photo seems stylistically quite different from Mann. She often shoots children, yes, but generally partial (or full) nudity is involved, with a hint of eroticism that is lacking in this photo. Of the dozen or so of her photos I saw, none of them were cropped so tightly on a face, nor were there any blurry foreground elements.
