Challenge: Off-Centered Subject II (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Location: Hickory, North Carolina
Date: Jan 25, 2006
Date Uploaded: Jan 26, 2006

This photograph is something I have been considering for several months. The subject is a 'folk art' weathervane that is on the lawn of our local art museum. It is fabricated from materials found along roadsides. It's quite colorful and everything on it moves when the wind blows. I had been looking for ideas and compositions to photograph this 'thing' but never really came up with anything good. I could also never get to it when there was enough wind to make it move. On Wednesday when I got off work it was very windy and had been for most of the day. I decided to ride by the museum and take a look on my way home. As usual, my composition became a 'portion' of the whole. I wasn't really thinking about the challenge when I shot this, but I really like the image and it does fit, in my opinion. It's a bit outside my norm as well. I love the color and motion in this image :)

Wow! What a nice composition. How can a technically superior image like this that obviously meets the challenge in such a unique way get only a 5.77? I will never cease to be amazed by DPC voters.

Very creative and colorful!

Wildly eccentric image, LOL. Nice how the star, which is LESS colorful, becomes the "subject" by virtue of its stillness. Very interesting take on the challenge.

Wow, nice color and love the almost abstract appeal of this. Good job.

A nice capture, the picture has a good festive taste to it, lots of colours, a very nicely captured motion. Compositionally it doesn't work too well for me: if not for the title, I would not have guessed that the emphasis was on the star.
