Hi there,
Colourful, that was the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw this photo.
But to be totally honest, it doesnât say 80âs to me.
It is difficult, because everybody has their own memories of the 80âs and the art to score is that you think of a way to âslapâ everybody in the face with your photo. Everybody has to know within 2 seconds what you mean, if you want to score that isâ¦
Thereâs nothing wrong with submitting your own version of the theme offcourse.
So the main reason about the somewhat lower score imho is that it doesnât scream 80âs.
Now onto the photo.
There is not 1 main focus point in this picture, not something to let your eyes rest on, nothing that draws you in. Itâs better to single out 1 subject and try to compose the shot as good as you can.
Itâs not only about meeting the challenge, composition helps a lot.
So I guess if you would have taken 1 chair, put it somewhere where the background was less cluttered that you maybe would have scored better.
I can give you a tip, and just take it as somebody elseâs opinion.
I normaly take my time thinking about the theme to shoot, thinking about what OTHER people (the voters) would like to see, try to come up with something interesting and then shoot. It doesnât work all the time, but sometimes you will come up with a fantastic idea. Just give yourself some time thinking about itâ¦.
I hope this critique will help you in one way or the other.
Keep on shooting,
Peter
