This is the dome at the Basilica of Saint Joseph in downtown San Jose. I thought about this a few days after the challenge was announced. I thought a circle within a square would make for a good balanced crop which is integral in this challenge. I set the camera on the tabernacle (yikes) with the eye cup off. Used my remote trigger to shoot arbitrarily. Decided to use my 10-22mm to get maximum coverage and was happy to find out that the whole dome was in the frame after chimping on the images. I wished the I had a higher DOF for maximum sharpness but I couldn't really do much set up as the clergy almost called the cops on me. I hope the effort was worth it but let's see how the voters think.

This is entry number 115. With the possibility of having the "big guns" of DPC in this challenge, I am hoping for a good placement of above a 6 or else I'll eat my shorts as I mentioned the Square Crop thread :)

Shot in RAW and converted with RSE. Adjusted temperature to 3900K to warm up the tones. Adjusted colors. Cloned the light bars and the burned section of the stain glass. Burned edges and added selective USM. I'm a little bummed that the stain glass got blown out. I hope it doesn't matter to most voters.

Just want to get over 6 once again.

Thanks for the comments guys! I will never understand why voters with no cameras seem to vote this image down. Look at the disparity of the votes. Amazing. I'm just glad I scored above a 6 so I didn't have to eat my shorts ;)

Wow, this is an awesome picture! And how interesting that you included which entry this was - mine was #112, as I also noted for no particular reason. I don't know if I've ever been to the Basilica, but this definitely makes me want to go! Thanks for posting.

Imposing dome, Rikki. ;-) That shows your interest in architecture. I wonder - tripod or lay the camera on the floor?
