 She's a female pheasant, shot when it snowed unexpectedly. Quite a straightforward wildlife shot really. Not much editing - brightness, contrast, crop, resize and sharpen. Going for quite a dynamic composition, using strong diagonals and curves.

Greetings from the Critique Club

Oh, my! I know a good bird photo when I see one, and this is a good bird photo. I am so lucky to get to examine it closely in the line of duty. Every feather is crisp and in good order; the highlight in the eye is there, the contrast with the not-white background is just fine. Yes, I see a tiny bit of haloing on the back of this beauty from sharpening; but because all else is so good, that can be overlooked.

So, congratulations on a great score, which I certainly think you deserved. I'll look forward to your next wildlife entry.

Something about this that I really like. The layering of the feathers, the perspective. No that's not it... something about the clarity of it all. Good job!!!

I don't love the photo, but the quality of you photo is undeniable. I hate looking at over sharpened, digital looking photos. Your is perfect. Thank you for this. I think maybe I don't like it because I don't like you subject. The more I look at it the more I appreciate it. Good job 8

wawaweewa! Look at that detail near the top of the head and eye. NOw was that edited (not that i would have aproblem with that). too bad the beak isn't as sharp. very nice. good luck.
