Why the centre composition?..... I tried it as an off center ROT crop, but somehow it just didn't work as a 640x640 crop. I wonder if it's because the focal point on the windmill is the centre of the 4 sails?
Any comments/ideas?
Several people commented that a full on front view would have worked better for the "square crop", but unfortunately the front view would have had a housing estate as the background. |

The haloing around the windmill really detracts from an otherwise wonderful shot. |

One of my favorites this challenge -- like the contrast between the windmill and the sky |

The sharpening artefacts around the sails are a shame - really quite eye-catching. Might I recommend that you not shoot against the bright part of the sky in this instance? That's left you with an enormous brightness gap to bridge between keeping detail in the windmill and the sky - the opposing angle, shooting from the right of this frame, would have allowed you to keep the entire shot within the dynamic range of your camera more easily. Obviously, there may be other factors preventing such a shot - but that very bright area of sky has certainly caused problems. |

For square crop, IMO would have filled the frame more from the front,to improve the impact.....7 |

Great subject beautiful sky in background. The green seems a bit flat, but being that this shot was taken at dusk, that makes sense. |
