It looks like some type of seed pod, and what a find, as I love it. Great color, textues, and perfect for a macro shot, that worked, with great DOF as well.....

I like the clarity you got on the seed pod or whatever in this shot. The light and shadows really make the image pop. Have you considered trying it with a square crop to remove the stem or vine from the top part of the photo? I think this photo would look great with that type of crop too.
