This is a fine image, but seems a little washed out to me. That could be my monitor. I like that way it is composed.

Homer and I would agree with you. Lovely snake, a bit too much reflection here and there and the background also seems a bit bright.

OOOHHH... I love snakes :-) I had a corn snake for a while, and before that a fox snake... they are beautiful creatures, and definitely NOT slimey :-) Your photo has a lot of glare, and the woodchips are quite burned out. I think I would have liked to see the head in there, and maybe, coiled so you didn't see the background, to more effectively fill the frame. Doing this if possible in direct sunlight without the flash might have been better.

Great work on capturing the texture...

awesome colors and focus around the left half. the harsh lighting spots and the blown out wood shavings are a touch distracting

That's right! Nor are they creepy....quite beautiful actually. Beautiful pattern, well captured. Very nice! Good luck.

If you could have literally filled the frame you'd have taken out your problem areas...the open background areas. Those seem to be just a little hot. nice colors in the snake.

first off i hate snakes...that beig said, the challenge was met, colors are good, compostion is good, the reflections are a bit distractiong

I very much ike the concept; there are a few things you could do to improve the execution. A difuse light source woiuld work better with the reflective skin of the snake, and a bit darker background would possibly work better; it is overexposed here. Did you use an incandescant light? The color balance looks quite reddish. You can correct this in software, or your camera may be able to compensate. If you have the camera's white balance set to manual, it may have been fooled, this is not uncommon.

Having three snakes of my own, and a passion for herpetology, I was drawn to this picture. I find the hot spots on the scales, and the bright, washed out background to be a little distracting. I photograph a lot of snakes in the wild, and it's not an easy task, so I still think this picture is worthy of a 9.

Very cool shot. Nice colors, textures and composition.

I totally agree! Nice curve here. Light seems just a tad harsh, but wonderful composition and colors.

Have I not seen this snake before somewhere :-) Lovely colors and textures, the composition is spot on as well. The light just appears a little too harsh in some places.

Lighting maybe off...(IMHO)

A little bright on the bacground, so that's distracting. Fantastic detail on the snake, though!
07/28/2003 12:28:44 PM
the lighting is a little too bright. a change in the lighting or shutter speed would help reduce the over exposure.
07/28/2003 01:01:19 AM
I think if it was darker it would be better.

I do believe I recognize this beauty. Nice color as aways.
