Just a quick note to thank you all for the nice and interesting comments and votes. My "That's Close Enough" picture was fairly difficult for me as she would not pose. I had been perched on a ladder long enough that I really wanted to reach out and turn her just a little. When I did take a shot I would get her out of focus or she had the wrong end pointing at the lens. I got one of her with her stinger ready for action, and then I took a little break so she might settle down. I am real pleased with placing 14th, as I knew it was on the edge for a true "Fear" shot. Oh by the way. No she isn't plastic, nor is she upside down, this is the way they hang. I should have entered her the other way around because she is a lot more intimidating. Thanks, Autool

Very sharp. Nice DOF. Appreciate that the shadows fromt he flash are mostly all hidden behind the nest. I like the upside down composition and the minimal color. If I had to find fault, it would be with the streak that, I assume, is on the wood behind the wasp -- it looks like it's coming out of its tail? I'd consider cloning that out in future versions -- but nothing you can do about it for this competition. |

Wow -- that is close. I'm sure you've gotten this criticism already, but I don't really like the wasted white space on the right of the image. |

Good...very good picture of a wasp. Doesn't quite interpret fear in my opinion though. I do like it though. The only way I can really vote is how applicable it is. |

Actually, it's a little too close for me!!! I hate these things; their nests are kinda cool though. good focus and depth. I think it might have been better if it wasn't cropped quite so closely to the bee with all the open space in the left. In other words, move the bee further up and to the left. |

Finally, a micro shot that has the proper DOF! Good capture and good theme. Reminds me of the time a neighbor and I tried to get rid of a large hornet's nest under his eave. Not a good memory either:) |

The upsidedownness of it all doesn't work for me. Great detail though. |

Very scary subject. The wasps around here build more tan colored nests, I think their wings are clear and possibly a different color pattern. I try not to get this close. Thank you for the wonderful shot! Personally, I would have cropped this for portrait (wiped out the left, blank side). 9 Swash |
