Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: 2-Second Exposure (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Nikon D50
Location: Calderglen Country Park. East Kilbribe. Scotland
Date: Mar 18, 2006
Shutter: 2 seconds
Galleries: Nature
Date Uploaded: Mar 18, 2006

My first attempt at anything remotely slow as a 2 second shutter speed. I took this at a local country park at about 3pm. As im very new to photography and Photoshop the picture nearly drove me to insanity as it took me about 50 pictures before i even got something that i thought i could work with.
Conditions were overcast and time was approx 3pm gmt.

Alterations done in PS. Auto levels, Curves, Cropped and resized. This is about my limit of knowledge with Photoshop at the moment.

Comments and advice on this would be gratefully accepted.

This looks like a fun location to shoot. Many angles and various times of day I'm sure to investigate. Looks fine for the long exposure. A little bluish cast to it that could be modified with a little white balance.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

I love bridge shots. I love bridges, if you look in my portfolio you will see that, LOL :)

The water in this picture is perfect, the flow, the lines, all very crisp and clean. But as said in an earlier comment, that is about all that is really interesting about the shot. What can be done to make it better? Well, different crop might help, just taking my screen up a bit and removing the top part of the bridge makes a tremendous difference in this shot. It puts more focus on the water and less on the bridge, which in this shot is competing with the water for my attention.

Also the post processing can made a big difference in the shot as well. The lighting is very hard on this and while I see you did an auto levels and curves, don't be afraid to go in and explore the other actions available. This might work very well in b&W or duotone, taking a minus form the color shot and adding it in a plus in another version. If you do try that I would love to see the results.

I hope my comments help and I love your butterfly shots as well. They are very pretty!

Good luck in future challenges.

Nice smoothness in the water and sharpness in the detail, but may be better with a tighter crop.

Thw water is really linear, but the vegetation is a little creepy!:) It's alive!

A nice waterfall--about average for the bunch of waterfalls in this challenge.

The light seems quite harsh in this shot and it is a shame that the overall scene has little of interest. You've shot the water well, but somehow it isn't quite enough to make this scene create a 'wow'. Perhaps having something in the foreground, or someone on the 'bridge' above the water (is that a bridge - I'm not sure).
