This bear was actually about 5 feet away from me, so that is why I couldn't get him more centered in the frame. And no, he wasn't in a zoo. He was walking beside a backroad on Vancouver Island, and if I'd put my hand out of the car, I could probably have touched him. Not a tame Yellowstone bear, either!

If anyone doesnt fear one of these things they have never seen how big they are. Photo has nice colors but is slightly pixelated. 7

Good shot, I wish it were focused more tightly on the bear though.

I almost saw somone get mauled by a Grizzly in Yellowstone, these are big critterz :)

I think the bear needs to be more "up" in the frame so that there is more ground in the foreground, and not quite so much greenery in the background.

A wonderful scary picture! Anybody who isn't afraid of that doesn't know much about bears.

where did you find a bear for this challenge??? i feel that the picture is cropped too closely to his feet, but then i don't know what was there. he's also not quite in focus and would be more scary if he looked at the camera (i know, probably mission impossible under the circumstances ...) -- gr8photos (3)

beautiful, natural... certainly not fearful

This would be really fearful if bear was coming at you.

beautiful picture but i dont see fear
07/10/2002 01:47:00 PM
Fear? What's he afraid of?
07/10/2002 03:45:00 AM
My level of fear would somewhat depend on the length of your lens....

great picture

This is a good shot.. I would like to comment on a few issues... first of all, The focus is a little soft. It looks like you may have been making this photo under poor lighting.. maybe its overcast outside. I also think the bear is a little too close to the bottom of the frame... maybe a little 'breathing' room at the bottom would be nice. = 6 - jmsetzler

meeting challenge = 4 hard to tell if this is a zoo or actual sighting of a bear - definate fear there! Photo quality = 4. I'll go with the assumtion this was a shot taken quickly before the bear went away. total = 8

I know this photo as been talked about. How its just a photo of a bear, but to be fair, He looks pretty pissed off to me "7" Dogman :]

I like bears...! Still great shot!

Nice. The open mouth adds to the fear factor. This would be a lot scarier if he were standing on his hind legs and roaring at you. Why didn't you taunt him with some fried chicken or something? lol...great shot! 8 Lisa

You need to get more of the bear. If you are gonna go take pictures of bears you have to have a long lens so you can really fill the frame with him. In this picture the bear is just sort of ho hum walking around. There is nothing exciting pulling me in.

he does look pretty mad..

Another close call...good work...

There's a bit too much grain here. Not sure if it's the camera or if you had to crop a lot. The bear looks a little too relaxed to be scary.
07/08/2002 03:42:00 PM
Not that I would wish you personal harm, but it would have been better if the bear were going towards you (more fear!) A bit dark. Background a bit fuzzy in places along with the bear. 6 Swash
