::: Critique Club :::
Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.
Interesting to do a critique on your image but it is difficult if you don't give us any information in your photographers comments. When we do a critique, we go past just the photographic result, that's what voters comments do. The critique looks at what you were trying to achieve, how you wanted it to look and what issues you had in getting the image captured and ready for voting.
First Impression - the most important one:
I think she got the cute vote in screeds. Great top 50 entry for this difficult challenges.
Composition:
I didn't notice the other person till I read the comments ... I have no idea how I missed him .. must by the excellent DOF (hehe).
Her face is really very centred in the picture .. and you could try other crops that may have helped with removing this ... either cropping the pic more on the left removing the boy and leaving more on the right. Problem with my comments is that I have to guess what you have done as you have not included comments.
Subject:
Really meets the challenge in the most lovely way.
Technical (Colour and light):
I love the colours in this shot, the DOF is really good and the sharpness is lovely.
To grow its vote?:
Try recropping without the spare head ... look at the rule of thirds .. notwithstanding every other rule .. there are so many ... but this is great and as your highest scoring I hope you had a bloody nice drink after the voting finished.
Summary:
Well done ... this is a shot to be truely proud of.
If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via the PM system.
Cheers

very nice - I like the transition out/in/out of focus, the color... if only her eyes were open.... |

VERY NICE. Lovely colours. Pity about the head on the left. Still a 7 from me. |

The only thing it needs is a fill flash. Good picture. |

these portraits are killing me. even though it has some candid feel to it with the other child 'ducking' i dunno. the green seems stale. and the red is blackish. and to centered for me. |

This needs to pop. Saturation is good but more contrast would have helped much. a candid does not have to mean "unmodified" create...jazz it up a bit.
I would also like to see the focal point of the image off of dead center. Rule of thirds would be a player here |

What I love about this image is the clarity. No sharpening artifacts, and its not soft - perfect balance. The subdued lighting (cloudy?) works excellently here and the pink sweater compliments the red of the tulips. I almost missed the second child's (please god let it be a child) head which sows me that the central focus is right where it should be. Well composed and well taken. 8 |

I'm not much for receiving or giving comments, but since Candids are
near and dear to my heart, I have decided to give comment on every entry
in this challenge.
Children are so easy to get candids from. This is cute, but there is little interest for me as a candid. More portrait style to me, even though she isn't looking right at the camera. It's pretty and cute, but doesn't speak volumes to me as a candid. It's a 4 for me. |
