Taken during lunch time at a coffee shop in the commercial center near my office. I just love that armchair, it's very comfty ... already had a coffee over there :)
Would have loved to focus only on the newspaper guy, but had to quickly take the shot and leave. I don't think the guy would have been very happy about this :). Also, a guard of the commercial center told me that it's not allowed to take pictures inside (why not???) so I could not take more pictures.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

I think this is a wonderful example of a candid photograph with a composition that gives it an almost journalistic feel. Lighting of the main subject is excellent, and focus is good. Your duotone choice is the right one, and complements the warm, cozy feeling of the image perfectly. The subject is certainly the man enjoying his paper, but in my opinion its also the large comfortable chair; lighting, texture, and composition in regard to this element is spot-on.

I personally really like the composition, with the subject in the lower centre of the photograph, and all the more or less "busy" elements surrounding him. He is a sea of calm in the midst of other activity and a jumble of other objects.

Some may complain that the image lacks focus, is loose, or poorly cropped, and that the large dark area at top, with arguably disparate elements, detracts from the whole. Whereas I think this would still be an excellent image were it more tightly cropped, I prefer the composition as-is, since, as I say, it seems to have a journalistic feeling to it. The sum of the parts of the whole tell a story, in my view.

I really enjoy this image. C'est une très belle photo. Félicitations!

I hope this helps.

I like this a lot, the grain on the top and left adds to the mood of the image, also the lighting isnt half bad either.

I'm not much for receiving or giving comments, but since Candids are
near and dear to my heart, I have decided to give comment on every entry
in this challenge.

This is just ok for me. Tech's are good, but just a man reading the paper doesn't really spark much interest for me in a candid. It'a a 4 for me.

I like this - it's certainly better than most in this set. Not convinced you've really dealt with the processing so well - I think more could have been brought out of it perhaps, especially in the darker areas toward the back, where there seems to be some real interest
