Hello, and greetings from the Critique Club. What follows is my best attempt to Critique this photo from a DPC voter's point of view. I'll do my best, but please excuse any comments that may be unintentionally rude or insulting.

Initial Thoughts

What a comfortable and intimate moment that is very well expressed.

Composition/Content

I like the composition, only I think it would have been slightly stronger had you put more emphasis on the adult model's head and moved the shot slightly more in an upper-right angle, or even just more up, putting the child's chin more towards the bottom of the frame. Of course, that's just a thought, but it seems there is too much centering with the child, making the "mother" figure less important. The models, however, are very relaxed and exude their love for each other, while giving us an intensity in their looks.

Background

A nice, neutral background, helping put the emphasis on the models

Camera Work/Technical

My only concern is in the rather flat lighting. There's not enough depth to this image I feel. The shadows are too light, and some hot-spots distract.

Digital Processing

No information given here, but some work with contrast and deeping the color and skin tones would have helped immensely.

Fits the Challenge

No problems here.

My Opinion of the Photo

A strong emotional photo with a few issues that I mentioned. It's a lovely family moment, but for DPC, it lacks that punch.

the young girl is very pale, prehaps a warmer/less intence light set-up would cure this

Lovely combo of mother and daughter. I like having the shoulder in the frame but would have liked it better if mothers head was fully there (maybe with both). Well done

I like the shape the two form in this pose. Great composition and the color scheme rocks. Good luck.

The adult seems cold, but the child is terrific.

the cropping off of the woman's head is a bad move. I would have included her entire head in the composition.

Like this heaps better than the shots you had on keppni.is where you blew out all hightlights, this is pretty nice. Like the light over the older girls shoulder to give her hairlight but it´s just a tad too bright and almost blows out the hightlights on her chee, I would turn down the bowens light about 1/2 a stop or even a full stop and see if that doesn´t work better. Anyway, nice portraits and says more about their character than most shots in this challenge so it got a 7 from me.

A very nice moment between them. The composition really enhances the closeness. It looks like your main light is too low. The light seems to come from slightly below them. The light on the mother's back and cheek is a little too harsh.

this could have been very nice... a couple of things dont work for me ...
the lighting seems to be flat really really needs to boost the contrast and drop the exposure a tad.

you have a copystand type lighting happening here. play with moving the main light a little more to center
