Congrats on getting through unscathed on your first challenge. I gave you a 6 and personally I forward to seeing more of your entries. I keep and eye on all the active Pentax dslr users though :)

Thanks for your comments. I agree with a lot of them. I would have liked to have more of the tulip in focus, but the shots that did also showed the texture of the paper behind, which I didn't like. And frankly, I was too lazy to try again that night.

it's a good composition but there is a definite yellow cast to the image and the head of the tulip needs to be sharper.

the focus may be have been better placed on the petals rather than the center of the image.

5 - Like the purple and yellow, but would like to have seen less stem and leaf/green and more detail in the tulip/the tulip and color of it, dominating and complementing the yellow more.

Lovely image. Until I looked it up, I didn't know gold was purple's compliment. The purple seems a bit magenta/red to my monitor Maybe an adjustement to put in a tad more blue might've made it more purple. Still, nicely done. 7

Nice job. My only real comment would be that I don't think the leaf adds anything to the challenge aspect of the photo. If it was for composition's sake, maybe you could have added another blossom instead.
