 12 hours before the challenge is announced I take a pic of this car in a river. I drive back out there (100 miles round trip) to take more. The sky was not as good but what can you do? I think the car, a Lincoln Towncar, was actually abandoned. It is all shot up and full of beer cans. The day before when I took pics the river was actually flowing a bit.

oh. not good. (not the photo) :-)
about the photo: suggestion ... maybe the photo would be better in my opinion if you showed more of the mud/ground in the photo, it would probably help the composition

Composition is weak. Go for a portrait layout and center the car on the bottom third.
