Maiden with the seagull - work of the sculptor Zvonko Car , placed near the sea in 1956 . It is one of the symbols of Opatija (The Perl Of Mediteranian Sea) - Croatia (Small country for a BIG vacation). On the promontory in front of the one-time cemetery a girl of stone extend her arm to a gull. This, however, is a new sculpture, the work of sculptor Car, and it was erected here in 1956 and turned into one of Opatija’s symbols. Before that, in its place, namely until demolished by a storm, stood the “Madonna del Mare,” the work of sculptor Rathausky from Graz (his also is the fountain “Helios and Selene” in the park between St. Jacob’s Church and hotel Imperial). The “Madonna” was erected to keep vigil over the soul of count Arthur Kesselstadt, who vanished, not far off from that promontory swallowed by the pre-Easter waves in 1891. During that excursion the countess Fries also lost her life, but her son Georg was saved. Today a gilded variant of the Madonna can be seen in front of Saint Jacob’s Church.

Your country seems beautiful and it has been a pleasure to visit your web site , it's full of stunning photos.
About the settings of your camera I have noticed that Contrast,Saturation,Sharpness are set high , you maybe could have more power to play with those values during the edition.
Does your photo meet the challenge ? I think it does well but maybe others were thinking about newspapers.
Mediterranean sea has a magical and clear lighting , I like your photo very much , the composition is good , the colors are nice ,maybe the blue tones are a bit over saturated (on the middle of the photo , left hand , less in the right hand).
It has a classic appealling but maybe have not a wow factor.

maybe for a travel magazine, but probably not what the dpc voters have in mind for the challenge. you probably would have done better if you had strung up some yellow police tape out on the rocks and created your own crime scene...
