This was taken for the school paper(freelance) and see where my skills actually compare if it were to be put in a contest. This was the best of the batch where you can see some emotion in the players face.

very little PP:

Post-Challenge:
Thanks everyone for voting and the comments. Richard T you weren't the only one wishing the board was working. kinda how I keep track of which picture was taken when without writing. Reason being this field was recently completed with surrounding dirt mounds and debri. Scoreboard hasn't been approved for opperation by the college/city.

Game Facts:
Bottom of the 8th, 1 out, runner on 1st and 2nd (after this play), game is tie 5-5. Seahawks win next inning after the second at bat hits a HR that coinsidently hits the scoreboard. 6-5

Thanks Again!

Definitely sign up as a PJ for the school paper. It's GREAT experience and you have skills.

This is an awesome sports capture. A tribute to your ability to capture both action and emotion in one shot. Technicals are all there, compostion is strong and the shot just screams to be looked at. I gave it a 10 in voting. I was impressed.

I really can't tell you of anyway you could have made this photo any better, other than a bit more curves adjustment to boost contrast and saturation.

Advice about PJ in general. Take assignments, do your best to capture them at thier highest. I really think you'd do well. Just try to tell a story with your photos and gather as much info about what is happening in the photo as you can: Who, what, when, where, why and how. That info helps writers and editors with follow-up and placement of your photo.

I alos reccomend you write some if you have time. It helps you to learn the journalism process and how to answer question for the viewer. It gives you more insight into what to capture in your photos, also.

Oh, and if ya want a free lunch a stop at PR events is always good :-)

Nice capture. I'm no photojournalist but I am a big baseball fan. :) I like this one. The only negative I have is the fact that you can see the scoreboard, which normally would be a good thing but the fact that it tells me the game just started indicates that maybe this wasn't the most critical play even if it was. Maybe title it better. For example, if the home team won say so or if they kept it close say that. Or better yet you could have submitted something that occurred later in the game so that the scoreboard in the background could tell the story instead of the title. Anyway, just my opinion. Good luck!

This is a good shot, it's really close to being a great shot. With sports, it's critical that you have the ball in the photo. Baseball players don't jump or slide into a base for no reason. The ball is the reason. 6 from me.
