It's 112 degrees outside so I'm trying to find my creativity indoors. I spread some party confetti out on the table and took this shot looking through a glass candle holder with light reflected from overhead. I liked the result and just increased the contrast. No doubt I'll get a few comments that it's blurry, but that's the effect I was going for.

Critique Club Critique:

You have both met the challenge (quite well, in my opinion) and created a very interesting abstract in the process. I particularly like the use of a fairly shallow depth-of-field placing the center in-focus while leaving the balance of the shot blurred. Combined with the ripples in the glass, it serves to draw the viewer into the shot.

A few things to improve (as always, my opinion only!):
>Perhaps reduce the contrast somewhat, particularly on the confetti in the center of the shot. The strong contrast seems a bit out of place with the softness of the periphery of the shot.
>I agreee with one of the comments made during the challenge that a shorter, less specific title would better suit the abstract nature of the shot. Perhaps even something like "kaleidoscope"

If you have any questions about my comments or would like me to elaborate further, please let me know!

Paul.

Great composition. I love the colorful abstract look of this. The focus on the glitter in the center could be a bit sharper but the overall photo isn't compromised because of it. Good job.

I really like all of the color in this photo. The glass gives a nice effect.

Nice abstract. I normally don't care much for abstracts but this one is rather nice. I like the off centered perspective.

I've seen these glasses before, they are kind of fun. I'm not a fan of abstract, but the ripples of the glass make an interesting texture with the colors. I'm not sure you needed to be so exact with your title, though, something as simple as 'glitter' would have worked well and helped with the feeling of abstract. I like that the bottom of the glass is not dead center, too.

Nice colours. One thing I would have done with this shot was pick a glass without a flat bottom, so that the glitter on the bottom would be ripply too.

the kaleidoscope effect really works...and interesting response to the challenge
the blur of the right, while it gives motion is a bit distracting to me

I like both the idea and the overwhelming usage of colors. Well done!
