i kind of knew this wouldn't score very highly, but it was a lot of fun, and the idea made me smile for a week before i finally shot it. i did try to think of how i could use a real rooster, but don't know anyone with a tame rooster...

i was really going for that film noir, 1940s feel. the noise is there intentionally; film grain in a dark shot... there is actaully none on the bird itself - it's the fluffiness of the toy. and that is real whisky in his glass.

From the Critique Post II
Hey X!

Very clever shot. I particularly like the door sign, subtle and cute. Most importantly, you had fun thinking up the shot, which is key for me.

I think the grain does not seem uniform which makes it hard to see it as being intentional. The focus on the rooster seems a bit too soft as well which also gives the impression that the grainy parts where caused by noise.

The only suggestion I could think of if you ever thought to reshoot this would be to use a longer shutter speed, less ISO, and a wider (shorter that is) aperture (something around 6.3 would have given you the depth you would need to achieve the clarity to read the door sign without distortion).

Hope this helps.
Peace
Rooster

From CTP2:

Very cute idea! I especially like the name on the door touch.
The picture is a little dark and grainy, otherwise this is great!

Hey there from the Critique Club

These are always tough for me to critique. You have a very creative and interesting shot here with several elements that work well to keep the viewer looking around inside the frame. It's very difficult to get a wow-type of photograph using stuffed animals or toys. Check out the recent toys challenge, and you'll see just that. While I do like your creativity here, this one just lacks that pop needed to send it to a top 10 type of photo. I am not sure that it could be done with stuffed animals. Very nice job meeting the challenge. This was a tough one that I sat out, but you met it very well.

Really funny and cute but you could have used neat image to get rid of the noise, I think that would have enhanced the picture. 6 from me.

The title is somewhat subliminal, isn't it?

Dick is sitting on the floor of his office drinking booze? That's just sad. I love the shadow of the chicken in distress and the room on the right for text. Good, funny work.
