I am not very impressed with this but as I could be in the next round of League of Death I had better enter something.

I sprained a tendon in my foot a couple of days ago and have not been able to stand on it.
This was taken whilst balancing on one foot this morning. I was in pain so all I wanted to do was point and shoot, which is exactly what I did, unfortunately I did not check my camera settings. Only afterwards did I realise I was at ISO 800.

This was the best of a poor bunch, but at least they are both looking at the camera.

I have been told, never work with animals, however for this session, the Horse – Woody, was the most compliant of the two.
(Thanks to James and Woody for putting up with a crumpy photographer)
I am reliably tolf that Woody is 16.2 hands, but he does not look that here.
Unless James is 2m tall.

Thanks for the feedback Kari

I requested the feedback because I did not know why I was not pleased with the image, others seemed to like it, but I did not, and I wanted some constructive review, which you have kindly given, so thank you very much.

This one did not cross my mind. I asked him to hold the horse to provide some extra relationship between the subject and the horse.

I will remember that next time. I could not believe how difficult it is to take portrait phototography when you are in pain. The photographer is suposed to draw the best from his/her subject, to try and put them at ease. I feel I failed in this, and still am as I continue to hop about on one foot.

::: Critique Club :::

Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.

First Impression - the most important one:
I don't understand why you asked for a critique on a picture that you have quite honestly canned yourself. I think it may be just because the button is there that you pushed it.

Composition:
Is fine .. I appreciate the time you have taken to straighten the picture and ensure that the lines are nicely aligned.

Subject:
Meets the challenge, yet I would not expect to see the reins being held from outside the box by someone .. I would have thought the horse would be out of the box or the lad in it for that to be a need.

Technical (Colour and light):
Balck and white overkill in my opinion .. and it is only my opinion. Some thing s deserve to be seen in colour and animals seem to work best wtih that in mind.

To grow its vote?:
Don't sprain your ankle before a shot .. trust me I know you know what I am talking about.

Summary:
good luck moving forward.

If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via the PM system.

Cheers

Kari

Great composition and i like that you've included 2 subjects in the portrait. I don't think the title gives any more information or is helpful but this site isn't about the title of course :). 7

I like the square crop and the black and white works great. 7

Is it a little soft on the groom's face? It is certainly sharp on the hourse's

Nice capture of the bond between horse and owner (or trainer?). I think if the man were looking slightly toward the horse it might have been more effective, but a very nice shot.

Nice portrait. The b&w conversion seems a little flat.
