This shot was taken of one of a bunch of flowers that my wife got for mother's day.

Opened .nef in Photoshop CS
Cropped
Resized and saved for web

I love the way the images from the D200 come out.. Even at 800 ISO (camera was accidently set to auto ISO) the grain on this was low.

Hi from the Critique Club!

When I first opened up this image I felt a wave of calmness flow through my body (not an easy task at the best of times)

I love the dramatic, solid black background. It's perfect for showing off the wonderful colours and simplicity of the single flower.

The lighting has perfectly captured the translucent quality of the flower. and I love those highlights down the left-hand side.

There's an incredibly gorgeous movement of colour down the flower; the purple gives way to the violet, which gives way to the pink. And the greens morph gently and seamlessly into darker shades until it looks like the stem will fade back into that solid black at the bottom of the image.

I love the huge negative space, it emphasizes the beauty of the flower even more.

The focus has allowed those lovely details to appear.

A beautiful, simple image!

simple and pretty.
Did you try playing with the angle of the lighting ?

It is a little sparce for my liking. I might have tried framing it so the flower traverses the diagonal (loose a lot of the negative space on the right).

This does not meet the challenge - inanimate but not an arranged composition of objects.
I'm wrong, it counts - extra points...

Beautiful shot. Nice composition. Can't think of any improvement suggestions.... guess that's why it's one of my top 10!

Lighting is very nice but negative space, to me, only emphasizes the lack of composition elements, which just doesn't work for me in this image.
