Hello (again) Ursula, from Crituque Club
By my definition, negative space is that area of a phtotgraph that isn't the main or subsidiary subject: so by that definition this qualifies admirably - and was one of the more memorable shots from the challenge. And an intersting take on a common theme too.
All the details are great - focus, sharpness, just a perfect level of non-focus on the background. I'm not sure I'd have used such a shiny object to drop the water - I'm no fan of that reflection - and i think also I'd have cropped the white area at the bottom of frame. But who am I to comment? 6.4 is a very respectable score. Pleasant also to see a shot where the negative space wasn't black, or simply plain: a more daring attempt than my own, for instance.
The refc=raction within the water drop is intersting here too - more so than such refractions are always intersting visually: appealling the way the loops of those black lines have almost completely changed to curls.

It seems like the "pop" of this image isn't dependant on the negative space but rather on the inverted eye within the drop. Perhaps that's just the first thing I focus on but each time I've been through the images it just seems to be the focal point. I like the technique, the lighting you chose and the background image. It just seems to be a study in refractive composition (pun intended) rather than negative space. - 5 |

I'm a sucker for water droplets. The negative space isn't very negative, but I gave you a 9 anyway. |

Oversharp. Would be a 10 with the right focus and sharpness. 8 |

The fact that the background is mirrored in the drop really makes this shot I think. Outstanding. |

Not sure if this counts has having negative space.... |

this is an interesting macro, but I think your background takes away from the 'negative space' concept here just a bit... the contrasts make my eye wander throught your 'negative space'... |
