This is one of the flower heads from a field of spring onions left to go to seed. I had originally submitted another shot for this challenge but on reviewing my images for the week I came across this one, the title popped into my head and I was happier with it as a submission. I just love the depth of field and bokeh of this shot.

Shot in RAW and converted with Olympus Master. Extremely little post processing. Very minor adjustments in levels and curves, resized, added stroke border and saved in Photoshop.

temba, sorry it took me so long to respond. I like your shot but can instantly see that you got stung with the DNMC crowd. Only your title pulls the picture into a "success" shot. Some people buy that, others don't.

The technicals are pretty well done. I like the composition a lot. The repeated motif of the OOF flowers in the background is nice. The colors are pleasant. The DOF is a bit tough. I like it, but it looks like you have some artifacting around the stems in the back. It could be a result of the bokeh of your lens or it could be a PP artifact. I'm guessing the first since you say you didn't do too much to the shot. You can see it most in the lower right corner.

::: Critique Club :::

Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.

First Impression - the most important one:
Great colours ... good DOF .. almost could be used as one of those inspirational posters they have in the workplace.

Composition:
the head of the seed is almost perfectly on thirds .. which technically is kinda cool.

Subject:
Without the title ... does this meet the challenge .. not sure .. but I think that this does on other levels really well.

Technical (Colour and light):
I love the colours you have captured so well.

To grow its vote?:
only take shots that meet the knowledge and understanding of success of the majority ... none of these left field/out of the box looks.

Summary:
I think you did great.... keep it up.

If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via
the PM system.

Cheers

Kari
